Editorial Policy

Jurnal Mumtaz: Islamic Education Management is committed to maintaining a fair, transparent, and academically rigorous editorial process. This Editorial Policy establishes the principles governing editorial decision-making, manuscript handling, and the responsibilities of the editorial team.

1. Purpose and Scope

The Editorial Policy provides a framework for managing manuscripts submitted to Mumtaz: Journal of Islamic Education Management and ensuring that editorial decisions are based on academic and ethical considerations.

The journal publishes scholarly works within its stated Focus and Scope, particularly research related to religious studies and education. Detailed information about the journal's areas of interest is available on the Focus and Scope page.

2. Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are made independently by the editorial team based on the academic quality, relevance, originality, methodological soundness, and contribution of a manuscript.

Editorial decisions shall not be influenced by an author's nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, institutional affiliation, academic position, political views, or other personal characteristics.

The editors are responsible for maintaining the integrity and academic standards of the journal throughout the editorial process.

3. Editorial Decision-Making

The Editor-in-Chief has overall responsibility for editorial decisions, supported by the editorial team and, where appropriate, members of the editorial board.

Editorial decisions may take into consideration:

  • the relevance of the manuscript to the journal's scope;

  • originality and significance of the contribution;

  • methodological rigor;

  • validity and clarity of analysis;

  • quality of discussion and conclusions;

  • appropriate use of scholarly references;

  • compliance with the journal's submission requirements; and

  • ethical and publication-integrity considerations.

The journal does not guarantee acceptance of a manuscript based solely on its compliance with formatting or submission requirements.

Editorial decisions are made on the basis of scholarly considerations and are not determined by the author's ability or willingness to influence the editorial process.

4. Initial Editorial Screening

All manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening before being assigned to external reviewers.

The screening may assess:

  • relevance to the journal's focus and scope;

  • compliance with the Author Guidelines and manuscript template;

  • basic academic and methodological quality;

  • originality and potential plagiarism concerns;

  • completeness of the submission; and

  • potential ethical or publication-integrity issues.

Manuscripts that do not meet essential requirements or fall substantially outside the journal's scope may be rejected at this stage without external peer review.

Passing the initial screening does not constitute acceptance or guarantee publication.

5. Peer Review

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening are evaluated through the journal's peer-review process.

Mumtaz: Journal of Islamic Education Management applies a double-blind peer-review process, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from one another.

Reviewers are selected based on their relevant academic expertise and are expected to provide objective, constructive, and confidential evaluations.

Detailed procedures and responsibilities relating to peer review are provided in the journal's Peer Review policy.

6. Editorial Responsibilities

The editorial team is responsible for:

  • ensuring that manuscripts are handled fairly and consistently;

  • selecting appropriate reviewers when peer review is required;

  • protecting the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts;

  • identifying and addressing potential ethical concerns;

  • communicating editorial decisions to authors;

  • maintaining the quality and integrity of the published scholarly record; and

  • ensuring that editorial policies are applied consistently.

Editors should not participate in editorial decisions concerning manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.

Information about the journal's editors and their roles is available on the Editorial Team page.

7. Research and Publication Integrity

The journal expects all submitted and published works to meet recognized standards of research and publication integrity.

Concerns involving plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabrication, falsification, authorship, conflicts of interest, or other forms of misconduct may be investigated by the editorial team.

Specific procedures and requirements are provided in the journal's Publication Ethics and Plagiarism Policy.

8. Use of Artificial Intelligence

The journal recognizes that artificial intelligence tools may be used in scholarly publishing for appropriate purposes. Authors remain responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and scholarly content of their submissions.

The journal's requirements concerning the use and disclosure of artificial intelligence are described in the AI Policy.

9. Appeals and Complaints

Authors may appeal an editorial decision when they believe that a significant procedural error, factual misunderstanding, or relevant information was not adequately considered.

An appeal should provide a clear explanation and relevant evidence. Appeals are reviewed by the editorial team and may, when appropriate, be assessed by an editor or reviewer who was not involved in the original decision.

Submitting an appeal does not guarantee that the original decision will be changed.

Complaints concerning the editorial or publication process should be submitted through the journal's official contact channel.

10. Confidentiality

Manuscripts submitted to the journal are treated as confidential documents.

Editors and reviewers must not disclose manuscript content, review reports, editorial discussions, or other confidential information to unauthorized parties.

Reviewers must not use unpublished information obtained during the review process for personal or professional benefit.

11. Corrections and Post-Publication Matters

The journal is committed to maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the published scholarly record.

When errors or concerns are identified after publication, the editorial team may take appropriate action, including publishing a correction, clarification, expression of concern, or retraction where necessary.

Post-publication actions are undertaken according to the nature and significance of the issue and in accordance with established principles of publication ethics.
